Where
It Used to Break
"This one does have a kind of funny story. We were in the
studio and one of the writers on the song is Dave Berg, and I
actually met him through a band member who plays with him around
Nashville and I fell in love with his ballad writing. I got him
to the studio to record a different one of his songs and it just
like wasn't working; it wasn't flowing very well so we were going
to take a break. We had two hours working the studio and no songs
were recorded. Dave Berg just happened to be in the building down
the hall working on something else. Dave Malloy saw him and said
I would really like to cut one of your songs. We have an hour
and a half right now so if you could find one that we all like,
then we will do it. We ended up finding "Where It Used to
Break" and I like that more than the one we did before."
Complete
"This is the first song we found for the record. It was a
song that Kasey played for me over the phone when I was still
living with my parents and she loved it, and I loved it also -
it is a beautiful song."
Mighty
Mighty Love
"That is probably the most challenging song vocally that
I have ever sang, and I think it was one of the main reasons I
was drawn to it. People would come to shows and say "Wow,
we don't know you could sing that good". Your album is supposed
to be a direct reflection of your talent, so I wanted to do a
couple of songs that were powerful vocally."
Whisper
The Words
"This was actually added onto the album after it was already
finished. David Malloy wrote that with two other writers. We were
in the studio doing some touch-ups in February, and he said "Man,
there is this great song that I wrote, and I really wish we would
have had time for you to cut it. I wish we would have had it done
earlier." You know for me, I was just so happy to have the
record done, that I said "Oh that's too bad, maybe next time.
He ended up playing it for Jim Norman who is the head of Warner
Brothers, and played it for him and sent it to me, and I was in
the studio two days later doing it, so."
Like
A Rocket
"This has always been one of my favorite songs and we did
it all last year during the Summer, and it was just a song that
another artist actually, Chalee Tennison, one of my label mates.
Last February, we were in Philadelphia, some where outside of
Pittsburg. She said this is a really good song that you should
look at called "Like A Rocket. " The publishing company
sent it to me and I really liked it."
